AUTOOL SDT205S Automotive Smoke Leak Detector
The AUTOOL SDT205S Smoke Leak Detector is a professional automotive testing machine designed to locate difficult leaks in vehicle pipe and air systems by filling the tested circuit with visible smoke.
It features a built-in air pump, so an external workshop air compressor is generally not required. The machine first introduces air to help determine whether the system is leaking, then generates smoke that escapes from the faulty location and makes the leak easier to identify.

Air Leak Test
Before generating smoke, the built-in air pump can introduce controlled airflow into the closed system.
Observe the pressure and airflow response:
• If the system maintains pressure, a significant leak may not be present.
• If the pressure drops or airflow continues, the system may contain a leak.
• Switch to smoke mode to identify the exact leaking location.
Smoke Leak Detection
During smoke mode, the machine produces visible smoke and sends it through the connected hose into the tested system.
Inspect all hoses, joints, seals and connectors. Smoke escaping from a component or connection indicates the probable leak location.
Common leaks may be found around:

How to Use
- Make sure the engine and exhaust system are cool.
- Identify and isolate the system that will be tested.
- Add the recommended smoke fluid to the machine without exceeding the permitted level.
- Connect the power clamps to a stable 12V battery, observing correct polarity.
- Connect the smoke hose to the tested system using the appropriate adapter.
- Seal the remaining system openings.
- Use air mode first to check whether the system holds pressure.
- Select smoke mode when required.
- Adjust the airflow gradually and observe the pressure.
- Inspect the system for escaping smoke.
- Switch off and disconnect the machine after completing the test.
Built-In Air Pump
The integrated pump makes the SDT205S practical for mobile technicians and workshops that do not want to connect an external compressor for every test.
The built-in pump supplies the low-pressure airflow required for smoke testing. It should not be treated as a general-purpose high-pressure air compressor.
Pressure Monitoring
The pressure display helps the technician monitor the tested system and avoid applying unnecessary pressure.
This is especially important when testing sensitive EVAP components, valves, sensors and plastic pipes. Always begin with low airflow and follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended test pressure.
Recommended Smoke Fluid
Use only compatible automotive smoke-machine fluid or the fluid recommended by AUTOOL.
Do not use:
• Petrol or diesel fuel
• Brake fluid
• Alcohol
• Solvents
• Engine coolant
• Flammable cleaning liquids
• Unknown or contaminated oils
Using unsuitable fluid can damage the heating element, create hazardous vapours or reduce smoke quality.
Important Safety Notes
• Use the machine only with a stable 12V DC power supply.
• Observe correct battery-clamp polarity.
• Do not use the machine near flames, sparks or flammable vapours.
• Never introduce smoke into a hot engine or hot exhaust system.
• Do not perform the test while the engine is running.
• Do not overpressurise EVAP or other sensitive systems.
• Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s repair information and pressure limits.
• Do not test high-pressure fuel, brake, air-conditioning or hydraulic circuits.
• Do not use the device on high-voltage electric-vehicle battery systems.
• Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid directly inhaling the smoke.
• Allow the machine to cool if its thermal protection activates.
• Drain or store the smoke fluid according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
