The ThinkDiag 2 OBD1 Adapter Cable is a connection cable designed for using a compatible THINKCAR or ThinkDiag diagnostic interface with supported older vehicles equipped with manufacturer-specific diagnostic connectors.

One end provides a standard OBD2 16-pin female socket for connecting the compatible diagnostic dongle. The other end uses a DB15 connector for attaching supported OBD1 and old-vehicle adapter cables.

This cable is an intermediate connection accessory. It does not directly fit every OBD1 vehicle without the correct vehicle-specific adapter.

How It Works

The cable is installed between the diagnostic interface and the required vehicle-specific adapter:

1. Insert the compatible ThinkDiag diagnostic dongle into the cable’s OBD2 female socket.
2. Connect the DB15 end to the appropriate vehicle-specific OBD1 adapter.
3. Connect the vehicle-specific adapter to the car’s diagnostic port.
4. Provide external power when required by the vehicle or adapter.
5. Open the compatible diagnostic application and select the correct vehicle.

Additional power may be required because some older diagnostic connectors do not supply voltage to the scanner.

Compatible Adapter Types

Depending on the adapter kit and scanner support, the cable may be used with selected connectors for older vehicles from manufacturers such as:

Important Compatibility Information

This is not a universal OBD1 converter and does not add unsupported vehicle coverage to the diagnostic scanner.

Before purchasing, compare:

• The diagnostic interface model
• The OBD2 female connector shape
• The DB15 connector and pin arrangement
• The required vehicle-specific adapter
• The adapter kit’s wiring and pinout
• Software coverage for the intended vehicle

DB15 connectors with a similar external shape may use different internal wiring. Do not connect this cable to an adapter kit unless its compatibility and pinout have been confirmed.

Important Power Notice

Some older vehicles do not supply power through the manufacturer-specific diagnostic connector. In these cases, an external 12V power connection may be required through the appropriate adapter.

Always verify polarity before applying power. Incorrect voltage or reversed polarity can damage the scanner, cable or vehicle control unit.
